Terms of Service

Last updated: 2025-01-01

1. Service Description

Burn Note (the "Service") is a self-destructing encrypted note sharing service. It provides a way to temporarily share notes that are encrypted in your browser. All features are completely free to use — there are no paid plans or hidden fees.

2. Irreversible Deletion

Important: Notes are permanently deleted the moment they are read, or when their expiration time is reached. This action is irreversible and cannot be undone by any means.

You are solely responsible for keeping your own copy of any content you send. The Service does not provide data backup or recovery.

3. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" without any warranties. The operator of the Service accepts no liability for:

  • Loss or deletion of notes and any resulting damages
  • Service interruptions or outages
  • Unauthorized access by third parties

This Service is not suitable for storing or sharing highly sensitive data such as state secrets, medical records, or financial information. For such purposes, please use a service with the appropriate security certifications.

4. Prohibited Uses

The following uses of this Service are strictly prohibited:

  • Sharing illegal content (including child sexual abuse material and copyright-infringing material)
  • Harassment, threats, or defamation of third parties
  • Distributing malware, phishing links, or other malicious content
  • Sending bulk spam
  • Attacking or overloading the Service's infrastructure

If a prohibited use is identified, the relevant note may be deleted without prior notice.

5. Service Changes and Termination

For significant changes to the Service (such as removal of features, introduction of fees, or service termination), we will provide at least 30 days' notice via the GitHub repository and in-service announcements. Minor bug fixes and performance improvements may be made without notice.

6. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any disputes arising in connection with this Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court as the court of first instance.
